National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week (NDAFW) is dedicated to educating parents and teens about the harmful effects of alcohol, nicotine, and other drugs (ATOD) use. Today's focus is on Alcohol

*Alcohol is the most widely used and abused drug – the primary drug with which teens experiment

*Alcohol’s effects depend on factors: gender, height, weight, body size, muscle:fat ratio, medical condition

*Beer and wine are just as harmful as hard liquor – drinks with lower alcohol content are not less harmful

*Binge drinking is defined as drinking heavily over a short period of time - approximately 5 or more alcoholic drinks for males or 4 or more drinks for females in about 2 hours

 *Alcohol depresses the Central Nervous System – effects brain by impairing judgment, lowering inhibitions, increasing aggressive behavior
