InnerAct Alliance and coalition partners, StandUP Polk and UthMpact, encourage your family to participate in Family Day: A Day to Eat Dinner with Your Children on Monday, September 22. Family Day is a national effort to promote family dinners as an effective way to reduce youth substance abuse and other risky behaviors.
Research by The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University consistently finds that the more often children eat dinner with their families, the less likely they may be to smoke, drink, or use illegal substances.
The most effective ways to strengthen families are not complicated. They are simple, intentional acts we can all put into practice. So, this Family Day on Monday, September 22, spend time with your own family - the original and most important social network - connecting at the dinner table. Agree to put devices aside, share a meal, and take time to talk about your day. Small acts of bonding and connection help families grow stronger and children thrive.
