Alcohol, Drugs & Your Brain: Why Risk It?

The human brain🧠 is the most complex organ in the body - it helps you breathe, eat a meal, drive a car, and enjoy everyday activities. Your brain not only controls basic body functions, it also helps interpret and respond to experiences, shape thoughts, emotions, and behavior.

Alcohol and drug use can alter important brain areas necessary for life functions. Substances also increase risky behaviors that can lead to addiction.💊🍺

Teens are most at risk because the brain continues to develop well into the mid-20s. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), teens who begin drinking before age 15 are 4x more likely to become addicted than those who start at age 21. And, those who use cannabis regularly score an average one grade-point lower than their peers and up to 8 IQ points may be lost before adulthood.

Why put your brain and your entire future at risk? ☠ Choose to take care of your brain during adolescence and your brain will take good care of you for the rest of your life!
