yourself and your teen to a night as “roomies” at a nice hotel watching movies
and ordering room service…maybe even a late-night chat. A relaxing retreat may
encourage teens to let their guard down to share thoughts/feelings that may not
happen at home with others around.
Teen
Take-Over Time –
give your teen a time frame, a budget, and control to plan an awesome outing
for just the two of you. They’ll love being in charge and may surprise you with
their ingenuity and creativity!
Simple
Self-Care – schedule a
day at the salon or set up a home self-care night just for yourselves. A few
hours can do wonders to relieve stress. Splurge on a scented candle or colorful
nail polish to set the mood. Have yummy ingredients on hand to blend up a tasty
mocktail. Special memories await…
Quiet
Time – sometimes we all need a
break and some quiet time. Go fishing, a day at the beach, visit a park, feed the ducks, take a
nature walk, visit a library or bookstore with a coffee drink or specialty tea
– it could be anything you’d enjoy doing together without pressure of
attempting conversation.
Thrift Store Treasure Hunt – “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” so how about a thrift store shopping spree? Vintage clothing is always fun…have a blast trying on old rock band t-shirts or 70’s style vests. Pick outfits for each other, take selfies of your finds, laugh, and make what’s old new again.
It won't happen all at once but in the process of trying some at-home or away-from-home activities together, laughs will be shared and bonds will be built - all priceless memories!
