In Today’s News: Crackdown on Copycat Food Products Containing Delta-8 THC

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) are cracking down on illegal sales of copycat food products that contain Delta-8 THC. Yesterday, the agencies issued warnings to 5 companies who produce Delta-8 edibles.⚠

The psychoactive substance is made from the same type of plant as marijuana and hemp. Regulators are concerned that the packaging used for these products may look similar to popular food and snack products. The FDA says this could lead to people overconsuming Delta-8.

Teens are particularly at risk if they are consuming edibles containing delta-8 THC since they often are new to drug use. They may not understand how long it may take to feel the effects, which can take 30-40 minutes. Teens may not know it takes that long so they may take another, then another - creating a risk of over-ingestion of cannabis. 🕱
