National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week (NDAFW) is dedicated to educating parents and teens about the harmful effects of alcohol, nicotine, and other drugs (ATOD) use. Today's focus is on Marijuana.
*Marijuana is the most widely used illicit substance by US college
students – second most used substance after alcohol
*Marijuana contains > than 100 substances called cannabinoids –
tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD)
*CBD is a component of marijuana for medicinal use - THC is the psychoactive
part that causes the high
*Marijuana strength has increased significantly – greater potency = greater risk
of addiction and health issues
*Marijuana Edibles take longer for effects to be noticed – overuse may lead to
acute marijuana toxicity
