National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week (NDAFW) is dedicated to educating parents and teens about the harmful effects of alcohol, nicotine, and other drugs (ATOD) use. Today's focus is on Tobacco.
*Nicotine
is a drug found naturally in tobacco – as addictive as heroin/cocaine - it takes just 8
seconds to reach your brain
*Smoking & tobacco products including e-cigarettes, cigars, smokeless
tobacco, other nicotine products cause disease and may worsen other medical conditions
*Tobacco Kills - each hour more than 50 Americans die from smoking. That's about
440,000 people a year
*More than 7,000 chemicals are found in tobacco smoke and second hand smoke including arsenic,
lead, and tar
*Most E-cigarettes also contain nicotine. E-cigs are not a safer choice – it is not just inhaling water vapor
