Most kids are doing the right thing by choosing not to use alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs (ATOD) and that is something we celebrate as part of the Own The Upside...Avoid the Downside initiative to prevent harm and promote health for our youth. Prevention specialists highlight the importance of keeping in touch with your kids and watching for signs that may signal experimentation with substances, but it's not always something you can easily see in plain sight.
Critical insights about teen behavior can be found within the clutter of their bedroom, if parents know what to look for. Own The Upside is proud to partner with the Polk Sheriff's Charities, Inc. for the Own The Upside...Avoid the Downside trailer, a one-of-a-kind interactive mobile exhibit offering an opportunity for parents to tour through a simulated teen's bedroom to learn about current trends and interact with items on display that reveal how common objects visible in plain sight or concealed in everyday items may signal potential involvement in drugs and risky behaviors. Participants will be enlightened by what they learn and walk away with important resources to help their children safely navigate through their teen years.
Reach out to invite a representative to visit with the OTUS trailer and share an informative presentation with adults who play a pivotal role in educating youth about making healthy choices. The trailer requires a minimum parking space of 9ft wide by 20ft long at your location. Due to the nature of the material covered, the exhibit is open to adults only.
