During May's Mental Health Awareness Month, InnerAct Alliance will share practical suggestions offered by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) on how to reduce stigma surrounding mental health and encourage support of your own personal mental health as well as the health of others in your community.
Week One's focus for Mental Health Awareness is on healthy aging and aging joyfully. Staying engaged is great for mental well-being especially for older adults. Nurturing connections with loved ones, joining a social group, or volunteering for something you care about is helpful to keep feeling active and connected. Embracing movement through physical exercise including walks, yoga, or dancing also provides benefits for healthy body and mind. Challenging yourself with brain teasers, exploring a new hobby, or learning something new helps to keep the mind sharp.
How Can You Help? - Reach out to an older friend or loved one and remind them that you see👀them, hear👂them, and support them.💕
